Your adventure begins with an early departure from Fes, the cultural and spiritual heart of Morocco. As you leave the city behind, you’ll ascend into the Middle Atlas Mountains, a region of stunning natural beauty and diverse landscapes. Your first stop is Ifrane, often referred to as "Little Switzerland" due to its alpine-style architecture and cool climate. This charming town, built by the French in the 1930s, offers a unique contrast to the traditional Moroccan aesthetic.
Continuing your journey, you’ll pass through the cedar forests of Azrou, where you might spot Barbary macaques playing in the trees. The road then winds through the Middle Atlas, offering breathtaking views of lush valleys, rugged rock formations, and traditional Berber villages. By midday, you’ll arrive in Midelt, a small town nestled between the Middle and High Atlas Mountains. Known for its fossil-rich landscapes, Midelt is the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely lunch.
In the afternoon, the landscape begins to change as you approach the Sahara Desert. You’ll stop to admire the panoramic views of the Ziz Valley, a vast oasis of palm trees that stretches as far as the eye can see. As the sun begins to set, you’ll arrive in Merzouga, the gateway to the Erg Chebbi dunes. Here, you’ll be welcomed with a warm Moroccan dinner accompanied by traditional Saharan music. Spend your first night in a comfortable Kasbah, where you can relax and prepare for your desert adventure.
After a hearty breakfast, your day begins with an exploration of the Sahara Desert and its surrounding areas. You’ll embark on a half-day tour to discover the many faces of the desert, from golden dunes to rocky plains and hidden oases. Your first stop is the village of Khamlia, where you’ll be treated to a performance of Gnawa music, a spiritual and rhythmic style unique to the region.
Next, you’ll visit Rissani, a historic town that was once the capital of the Alouite dynasty. Here, you’ll explore the bustling local market, where traders sell everything from spices to handicrafts. Don’t miss the chance to try a traditional Berber pizza, a local specialty that’s both delicious and filling.
In the afternoon, you’ll return to Merzouga, where your camel guide will be waiting to take you on a magical journey across the Erg Chebbi dunes. As you ride your camel through the golden sands, you’ll witness the breathtaking beauty of the desert at sunset. The colors of the sky shift from orange to pink to deep purple, creating a truly unforgettable experience.
Your destination is a traditional Berber camp nestled among the dunes. Here, you’ll be welcomed with mint tea and a warm Moroccan dinner. As the night falls, gather around the campfire to listen to stories and music under a canopy of stars. Spend the night in a cozy Berber tent, lulled to sleep by the silence of the desert.
Wake up early to witness the sunrise over the Sahara Desert, a magical moment as the first rays of light illuminate the dunes in shades of gold and red. After breakfast, you’ll return to Merzouga by camel, where you can freshen up and prepare for the next leg of your journey.
Today’s destination is the Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s most spectacular natural wonders. As you travel through the Ziz Valley, you’ll pass through small villages and lush palm groves, with the dramatic cliffs of the Atlas Mountains towering in the distance. The Todra Gorge is a narrow canyon carved by the Todra River, with sheer rock walls rising up to 300 meters high. Take some time to explore the gorge on foot, marveling at its stunning beauty and peaceful atmosphere.
From Todra, you’ll continue to the Dades Valley, known as the "Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs." This region is famous for its dramatic landscapes, with winding roads, towering cliffs, and traditional mud-brick Kasbahs dotting the horizon. You’ll spend the night in a hotel in the Dades Valley, where you can relax and enjoy a delicious dinner while taking in the views.
After breakfast, take a leisurely walk through the Dades Gorge to fully appreciate its natural beauty. The morning light casts a golden glow on the cliffs, creating a perfect photo opportunity. From here, you’ll continue your journey through the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, a region rich in history and culture.
Your next stop is Skoura, a peaceful oasis surrounded by palm groves and ancient Kasbahs. Visit the Kasbah Amridil, one of the most well-preserved and iconic Kasbahs in Morocco. This historic fortress offers a glimpse into the traditional architecture and way of life of the Berber people.
In the afternoon, you’ll arrive in Ouarzazate, often called the "Hollywood of Morocco" due to its famous film studios. Visit the Kasbah of Taourirt, a stunning example of Moroccan architecture, and explore the Atlas Studios, where many famous movies and TV shows have been filmed. Spend the night in Ouarzazate, enjoying a relaxing evening and a delicious dinner.
